Stephen turned professional in
1982, rapidly gaining an international reputation for his designs and
quality of workmanship. He is the winner or numerous national and
international turning awards.
He is a regular demonstrator at exhibitions and woodturning clubs and
organisations as well as being a woodturning instructor.
In the early 90's Stephen was appointed by the Turners' Company
as an assessor for the Register of Professional Turners held by the Company
who ensure that the highest standards of work and professionalism are met.

He has written many articles on woodturning projects in the woodworker and
practical woodworking magazines.
A piece of Stephen's work is shown on Page 35 of the AWGB 'Wonders in Wood'
book.
In 2003 Stephen was asked to design and make the giant Wassail Bowl - some
4'6'' high and 3'0'' diameter (probably the largest in the world) for the
master of the Worshipful Company of Turners to sit in, on the Company's
Float in the Lord Mayor's Show, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the
company.
Stephen's work covers all aspects of woodturning from spindle work ie.
furniture, rocking chairs, stools, dining chairs, spinning wheels etc. Face
plate work from hollow forms, natural edge vases, bowls including
translucent vessels, coloured and/or textured work and a form which is
called "a peeling vase".
"I am very fortunate to be working with the most beautiful of all natural
materials - wood. Each piece I examine carefully before using, to release
the best of the grain and features to enhance the beauty of the form, and I
feel I release the spirit of the wood so that each item is unique".
