The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain was formed in 1987 after an inaugural seminar at Loughborough College of Art and Design. The seminar itself had been organised as a result of discussions in America the previous year, when the idea of a national body for wood turners was first mooted. The Loughborough seminar was well attended and the AWGB was formed.
The Association has over 45 Affiliated Branches throughout the United Kingdom, providing local contact for individual wood turners and a range of inspiring and instructive programmes.
Since its inception in 1987, the AWGB has been very active, both as a provider of information and as a consultant on all matters relevant to wood turning.
Consultation with other wood turning organisations is a very important element of the AWGB's remit, and as a result the Association is happy to be participating in the Wizardry in Wood exhibition organised by The Worshipful Company of Turners.
